If you work or frequent the Airport/Nimitz side of town then you most likely have heard of Jets Local fast Food.
Jets has seen a couple of owner changes over the years, the most recent four years ago, but the restaurant and recipes have remained the same for over 40 years.
I have been a faithful patron and make it a point to eat here when Im in the area, usually when I go to the airport or just running errands. I love the home-style cooking and very reasonable prices.
The value for the money is good. One regular plate fills me up...Portions are decent and turn around is very quick. I usually get the barbeque chicken plate but today I decided to go with the daily special #1. Roast Pork (The daily specials rotate every two weeks. So every other Tuesday you can find this special).
If $6.50 doesnt satisfy your wallet then check out the regular menu, most of the other plates average just $6.00
..compare that to a $9.50 plate at Yummy's BBQ restaurant!
I also got a picture of the Breakfast menu board.
I don't usually order a beverage when eating out and just take a cup of water but the price for their soft drinks is soooooo reasonable I cant resist. I get the medium 36 oz cup for only $1.25, man this is like 7-11 big gulp prices from back in the day.
..back to my Roast Pork special..as you can see it comes with two scoops rice, mac salad, sprouts and kimchee. The pork was covered with some sweet tasting gravy :)
My co-worker ordered the #3 special - Chicken & Fish stick combo for $6.75..I admit that it looked really tasty and I wanted to trade him but with only 4 chicken wings I wasnt too impressed at the portions.
..Im glad that I did not forfeit my Roast Pork plate cause it was really ono! the gravy like I said was sweet and thick and had alot going on in it. Not to mention there were little bacon bites in the roast too. yummmmmmmmmmm yummmmmmmm!!!!
Check out the mac salad, now talk about creativity, they put slices of cabbage in it. Not bad for variety and the cabbage does not take away from the greasy mayo flavor but just enough to equalize it.
The side of kimchee and sprouts serves its purpose (healthy decoration) but on this occasion I stay away from that and savor in the full portion of pork. There were a few fatty parts in the pork roast but hey thats what adds flavor to the pot.
Jets is a local favorite for the nearby industrial businesses in the area and during lunch the place gets busy. I probably wouldnt recommend coming here for a family outing as it seems to be an atmosphere for "on the go" types. Most patrons I observed were blue collar workers wearing steel toe shoes and blue jeans, on a lunch break.
Jets is one of the few restaurants not located on a busy street or outdoor strip mall that my stomach and wallet can agree with. What I mean by that is that the prices are cheap and I do not end up in the restroom 5 minutes after eating their food.
